Job Overview: The Sous Chef will assist the Head Chef in the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring that dishes are prepared to the highest standards and that the kitchen runs smoothly. This role requires a hands-on approach, excellent culinary skills, and the ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in planning and designing menus, including seasonal and special offerings.
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of dishes, ensuring consistency and adherence to recipes and quality standards.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff, including training, mentoring, and managing performance.
  • Ensure that all food safety and hygiene standards are met and maintained, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of food items.
  • Assist in ordering and managing inventory of kitchen supplies and ingredients, ensuring cost control and minimising waste.
  • Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment, reporting any maintenance needs or repairs.
  • Handle customer requests, complaints, and feedback with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Support the Head Chef in creating and implementing kitchen procedures and policies.
  • Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence, ensuring smooth operations and high standards of food quality.


Qualifications:

  • Culinary diploma or equivalent qualification; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar role within a high-volume kitchen environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff.
  • Creative and passionate about food, with a keen eye for detail and presentation.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
